A Dragon Outside was such a satisfying continuation of the story. If the first book hooked me with mystery and tension, this one grabbed me with action, heart, and deeper character growth.
Right away, the stakes feel bigger. The kingdoms are still fragile, politics are messy, and shadow monsters are attacking again. Nothing feels settled for long, which kept the story moving at a steady, exciting pace. There’s danger around every corner, but it never feels chaotic—just purposeful and intense in the best way.
One thing I especially appreciated is how clean the story is. No foul language, no spicy scenes—just a strong plot, meaningful relationships, and emotional depth. It’s so refreshing to read a fantasy romance where the tension comes from trust, sacrifice, and loyalty instead of shock value. Honestly, it proves you don’t need explicit content to make a romance compelling.
Watching Ellie and Deryk’s relationship continue to develop was one of my favorite parts. Their connection feels earned. After everything they went through in the first book, there’s still hesitation, distance, and complicated feelings to sort out. That slow, careful rebuilding of trust made every interaction feel real and heartfelt.
I also loved seeing more of the world—dragons, mythical creatures, family dynamics, and political maneuvering all woven together. The story balances personal struggles with kingdom-level consequences really well. It never forgets the people while dealing with the big picture.
By the end, I felt both satisfied and a little emotional. The journey costs these characters something, and you feel that weight. It’s exciting, hopeful, and meaningful all at once.
If you enjoy clean fantasy romance with dragons, political drama, and imperfect characters fighting for light in the darkness, this duology is absolutely worth the read.
