Queen of the Night somehow managed to take everything I loved about Bounty Hunter and raise the stakes in every possible way.
The tension? Higher.
The danger? Darker.
The romance? Even slower and sweeter (in the most torturous way).
Vera is still hiding her identity as a Black Tulip while pretending to be an Originator, and all she wants is enough money to finally disappear. So when Ikar offers her a contract that could buy her freedom, she agrees… even though trusting him feels like the biggest risk of all.
What follows is a dangerous journey filled with shadow monsters, hidden magic, and secrets that refuse to stay buried.
And wow — this book had me hooked.
The slow-burn between Vera and Ikar is so well done. The quiet moments, the doubts, the unspoken feelings, the “we shouldn’t want this” tension… it’s the kind of romance that builds emotionally instead of relying on spice. Every look and conversation mattered, which made it feel deeper and more meaningful.
I also loved how much bigger the world felt in this one. The stakes aren’t just personal anymore — the entire kingdom is at risk. The mystery surrounding the Black Tulips and the magic system keeps unfolding in really satisfying ways, and just when I thought I understood what was happening… plot twist.
And can we talk about the pacing? I kept telling myself, “Okay, just one more chapter,” and suddenly it was way past bedtime.
If you’re looking for:
• clean fantasy romance
• slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers
• hidden identities
• dangerous quests
• high stakes + heartfelt moments
• zero spice, zero foul language
This series is such a gem.
Book two absolutely cemented this as a must-read series for me, and now I’m fully invested in Vera and Ikar’s story.
Highly recommend — just don’t start it unless you have time to binge. You’ve been warned. 😉
