If you’ve been curious about Reef McKenna since the very first book, Sabotaged is such a satisfying finale to the Alaskan Courage series.
We finally get Reef’s story — and honestly, I’d been waiting for it.
Reef returns home to Alaska to help with search-and-rescue efforts during the grueling Iditarod race, only to find himself partnered with Kirra Jacobs, the straight-laced, rule-following girl who never quite saw eye-to-eye with him growing up. When Kirra’s uncle goes missing and a child is kidnapped, what starts as a routine rescue quickly turns into a high-stakes race across the wilderness to stop something far more dangerous.
I loved the setup for this one. The Iditarod backdrop adds such a unique layer to the story — snow, sled dogs, remote camps, and miles of harsh terrain where anything can go wrong. It made the danger feel bigger and more urgent than ever.
But my favorite part was easily the dynamic between Reef and Kirra.
Their history gives the romance so much tension right from the start. The goody-two-shoes vs. former troublemaker contrast creates that constant push-and-pull that I personally love. Their relationship develops slowly, with lots of small moments and growing trust, which made the payoff feel earned instead of rushed. I’m a sucker for a good slow burn, and this one delivered.
As with the rest of the series, the suspense kept me guessing, and I appreciated how the whole McKenna family comes together in this book. It really feels like a full-circle ending, getting to see everyone show up for each other one last time.
Content-wise, it’s clean with faith naturally woven into the story, making it another great pick for both teens and adults who enjoy Christian romantic suspense.
If you like:
- slow-burn romance
- childhood rivals / opposites-attract vibes
- search-and-rescue stories

this is a strong finish to the series — and a great reward if you’ve been waiting for Reef’s story like I was.
